A National Dessert Day Recipe from the OLP Kitchen


Every day at the Our Lady of Peace Hospice Residence, Food Service Director Rossana Ackerman and her team serve up delicious desserts. Their selections bring the flavors of the seasons and are known to spark happy memories for patients. 

October 14th is National Dessert Day, the perfect time to share one of Rossana’s favorite fall dessert recipes with our blog visitors! 

Frosted Pumpkin Bars


2 eggs

½ cup oil

1 cup sugar

½ of 15oz (425g) canned pumpkin

Sift together, add:

1 cup flour

1 tsp baking powder

½ tsp soda

¼ tsp salt

¼ tsp ginger

1 tsp cinnamon

¼ tsp cloves

¼ tsp nutmeg

½ cup walnuts

Mix and pour into greased 9×13 pan.  Bake at 350 degrees.  Cool.


3 oz cream cheese

3 tbsp butter

½ tsp vanilla

2 cups powdered sugar

Combine; beat with mixer until smooth, spread on cooled cake.
