On June 8th, donors and staff gathered in our Memorial Garden to celebrate and express gratitude for the gift of our beautiful new private care suites, Garden View Room/lounge, and covered entry. It was a champagne celebration with a ribbon cutting, music by guitarist Billy McLaughlin, and a blessing, given by Archbishop Bernard Hebda.
The archbishop spoke of the generous gifts that were given and the compassionate care that will continue to honor the mission of Our Lady of Peace (OLP) in new sacred spaces for patients and families. He blessed our renovation, and our dedicated staff that provides physical, emotional, and spiritual care, including our in-home hospice, home health care, Highland Block Nurse program, and bereavement team.
Following blessings and prayers with the archbishop, guests toured the new lounge and care suites, each recognized with a plague honoring those who made the room possible. As we toured, we talked of how hospice care at OLP has evolved from patient beds in open wards to double rooms, and now, all private rooms. We also remembered the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne who began our mission of compassionate hospice care, 82 years ago.
We would like to express a heartfelt thank you to all in attendance, Billy McLaughlin, Archbishop Hebda, our donors, and our staff who put the event together. And we look forward with anticipation of comfort and privacy our new care suites will bring to patients and families for generations.
