Giving Thanks for OLP Caregivers

Share

It’s the time of year when giving thanks is abundant. As we feast our eyes on Thanksgiving turkey and all the trimmings, our gratitude for people we love who surround us at the table is at a high point.

As we head into Thanksgiving, we also give thanks for people who give love, the caregivers of Our Lady of Peace Hospice and Home Health Care (OLP). Love is in the hearts of our physicians, nurses, CNA’s, chaplains, housekeeping and food service staff, and volunteers. It’s apparent in fresh sheets and a colorful quilt, clean surroundings, quality care with dignity, spiritual attention, friendly visitors who bring comfort, and food that tastes like home.

The daughter of a patient in our hospice residence once said, “This is not a job for these people, it’s a calling.” Tom Cassidy, RN is a hospice nurse who says, “Hospice care is my calling.” Tom has compassionately cared for OLP patients for 35 years and he recalls times when he held a patient’s hand as they died. He says, “We do our best to have someone at their side when they die, so their family knows their loved one didn’t die alone.” You can read more about Tom Cassidy and his dedication to OLP in the October 26th issue of the Catholic Spirit.

If your loved one received the gift of love from OLP caregivers, please join us in blessing them with a prayer of Thanksgiving.
