Referrals Are Proof of a Job Well Done

Our Lady of Peace is our wonderful safety net, and I’m grateful you are here. Emily Furseth, MSW, LICSW

Emily Furseth has consistently referred patients to the Our Lady of Peace (OLP) Residential
Hospice Home for ten years. We continue to gratefully receive them, promising to provide
excellent care with compassion and dignity.

As a hospice discharge coordinator at Methodist Hospital, Emily wants to be sure to make the
right referral for her patients. Their preference, prognosis, and ability to pay are top
considerations when choosing the right place. “If a patient doesn’t want their family providing
personal care and/or when pain management is a top priority, I refer them to the OLP Hospice
Residence,” she explains.

Admissions Coordinator Patrice Engelmann is Emily’s point of contact at OLP. She processes the
applications sent on behalf of patients wanting end-of-life care in one of our 21 private rooms.
Emily values her relationship with Patrice. “When I train colleagues, I tell them Patrice knows
her stuff, and if she needs something, send it right away because this is a very important
relationship.” She adds, “OLP is warm, welcoming, quiet, and serene, and the staff is kind,
thoughtful, and respectful. I personally want to say, ‘thank you’ for the love and care you give
my patients.”

I have confidence with every referral.
Kristen Schinler, MSW, LICS

Kristen Schinler refers to OLP when her in-home hospice patients get to the point where they
need 24-hour care. “They are with us for a month or two, sometimes longer, and then I refer
them to OLP,” Kristen says. “Families choose OLP because they will get great care, and the
burden of care will be taken off of them.”

In her role as hospice social worker with Park Nicollet Methodist Hospice, Kristen finds that
people don’t often realize the intensity of caring for a loved one at end-of-life. She says,
“Families report back to me and say they are grateful to have received care at no cost in a
beautiful private room where their family could gather together.”

When Kristen reaches out to Patrice to check availability, she faxes patient information at the
same time. “I put in an application with a note saying it might be a while, but we want to know
OLP will be there when we need them,” she says. “I make referrals to OLP because my patients
receive great care. We get reports back from family members who tell us it was ‘wonderful,’
and their loved one received really great care.”

OLP welcomes referrals from social workers, nurses, case managers, and family caregivers. If
you have a referral, please email Patrice Engelmann at patricee@ourladyofpeacemn.org or call
her at 651-789-5023.
