“Living Well With Serious Illness”

Good article in National Hospice and Palliative Care’s Spring Newsletter featuring the book “Life After the Diagnosis” which highlights the challenges facing those with serious illness and how to emphasize patient goals and quality of life. Palliative Care physician Steven Pantilat calls upon his professional expertise as well as the personal experience of his mother’s lung cancer diagnosis resulting in a unique perspective of competence and compassion. Through the use of story he explores symptom management, interpreting physician language, navigating hospice, making decisions and other issues that patients and families encounter with news of a life threatening diagnosis. Dr. Pantilat notes it is his hope that the book will serve as a resource for “the community that cares for life in all of it’s stages.”
